Rug Roundup | Spring 2018

Spring is here (well, in spirit more than in sun and warm temperatures here in Colorado) and I am officially working through two home projects. One, a rustic mountain home, and the other a small urban house in need of some updates. While they are very different in style and locale, they both seem to benefit greatly from the addition of rugs. Small sizes in entry ways and bathrooms, and area rugs for rooms that could use some differentiation from the rest of the dwelling.

Both homes utilize hardwood on the main levels, and carpet on upper or lower levels. It is this fact that has broadened my search to seek out both flat-weave rugs, as well as options with a little higher pile for the areas graced with hardwood. Let me say now that I have developed a small (it’s huge) obsession with the latest flat-weave rugs, so much so that I feel it’s only right to devote a post to my latest finds.

A few notes on the matter…
These range in budget. I have found some really great styles from my more economical stand-by’s like Target and Urban Outfitters, and am a firm believer that patience with vendors such as Rejuvenation and West Elm truly pays off. Waiting and watching for weekly promotions are a great way to steal a high-quality rug at a discount.

I’ve had my eye on this one for quite some time, and decided to venture out to the brick and mortar location recently. Seeing it in person, I was surprised to find that the areas of color that appear a slightly darker tan actually incorporate a copper toned metallic thread into the weave. This was the deal breaker for the rustic home project, but the icing on the cake for an urban dwelling! Location, location, location darling. West Elm, Colca Rug

I stumbled across this gem of a shop while browsing Etsy; the company is called Kiliim and they are based in Cairo, Egypt. While I inclined towards neutral color palettes, the bohemian inclined babe will love the brighter rugs featured in the shop. Both camps will be equally pleased with the clean and modern patterns, a great price point (even with shipping included!) Kiliim Etsy Shop

Rejuvenation is my go-to when I’m looking for versatile classics. They have an excellent selection of Antique/Vintage products for the collector, as well as updated versions of traditional items. Not to mention, they have great discounts from time to time, so signing up for their emails will save the savvy home shopper over the course of a home project. Rejuvenation Skyline Rug

I’m in love with this rug by Loloi – I think you could put it in almost any room and get some serious style points. Although the Loloi website shows this rug, there are many other online retailers that have it available at various price points. This is definitely a rug that I would be willing to give up my Starbucks habit in order to work it into the budget! Rugs Direct: Loloi Adler Rug

Target nails it again with a budget friendly item that beautifully combines a warm neutral with clean modern style. I love this rug because of its’ versatility – I mean, you could easily build a room around this rug OR seamlessly integrate it into an existing decor without much effort. This is the reason I go to Target for milk, and come home with a rug. Target, Zadie Rug

Last, but certainly not least, this rug from Urban Outfitters is living proof that one does not have to sacrifice style for price. From afar, it’s got a great pattern, and up close one realizes that this is that colorful 90’s rag rug, but all gown up and completely chic. I think this rug really fits the bill of updating a room without breaking the bank – a perfect way to dip your toe into the waters of updating your interior. urban Outfitters, Connected Stripe Rag Rug
